Custom orthotics, cast from your own feet.

Custom-made orthotics are a significant part of my practice, and I have been casting them since 2003. Orthotics support the feet, neutralizing collapsed or rigid arches and leg length differences. Addressing an imbalance at the ground level can resolve pain and alignment issues all the way up to your neck.

Why healing starts with the feet

Every step begins at the ground. Poor foot mechanics can alter how forces travel through the ankles, knees, hips, and spine, contributing to inefficient movement and pain.

At Blue Mountain, custom orthotics are not just a product that you buy; they are part of your treatment. Through a comprehensive evaluation, I address underlying issues and use custom orthotics as a tool to improve your body’s structure when this treatment is necessary for healing or injury prevention.

How it works

  1. 01I take measurements of your feet while you are standing. I analyze your gait and look at the shoes you live in.
  2. 02I create a plaster cast of each foot so that the orthotic is shaped exactly to your feet, not to some non-specific, non-measurable average.
  3. 03The podiatry lab, established in 1964, analyzes your foot and gait measurements, my notes and the casts to create a precise orthotic tailored to your feet and your specific problem.
  4. 04The lab sends the orthotics back to my office and I schedule you in to fit them to your feet and shoes. I guarantee six months of fitting at no further cost to you, should it ever be necessary.

In the clinic

Every pair starts in my hands.

I have cast orthotics by hand since 2003. A plaster cast of each foot, taken in the clinic in Bigfork, is what your orthotics are made from.

Questions

Good to know.

How do I know if I need orthotics?

The evaluation tells us. I look at how you stand and walk and where your pain is coming from. If your feet are part of the story, orthotics become part of the plan. If they are not, I will tell you.

Do I need a referral?

No. Montana allows direct access to physical therapy. It is always wise to check whether your specific insurance requires a physician referral for reimbursement.

What should I bring?

The shoes you wear most, for work, walking and the trail. Orthotics are made to work in the shoes you actually live in.

Do orthotics replace treatment?

No. Orthotics are a tool to maximize the efficiency of your treatment if they are necessary for you. We will always attempt to treat your problem with hands-on manual therapy, education, foot and shoe health, and specific exercises.
